New York buildings at night are my favorite subject.  I have a passion to paint the strong, vibrant, colorful life at the ground level while the buildings overhead push down upon us.  My skin tingles as I think of new subjects to paint.

Cityscapes

These are paintings that try to portray the congestion, noise, color and excitement that create a special mood.  The difference between the city at day with sunlight and people compared to the city at night with headlights, store lights and stop lighjts is significant.  Night and day evokes entirely different emotions.   

Landscape

Mountains, barns, small towns, rolling hills, trees and grass.  These are the subjects that are soft, casual, quiet and restful.  This is what I try to portray.

Boats and Water

Having lived near the water for most of my life I love the counterpoint that boats, boathouses, docks and other manmade structures provide to the sometimes languid, sometimes powerful movement of water.  In fact, often times the water and its path are enough to provide the viewer with the intended message.

Sports

Sport figures provide the opportunity to show power, action, conflict and contact all at once.  I want my sports paintings to grab the viewer and have them feel the impact.

Portraits

Whether using oil, watercolor, or acrylic the important thing is to catch the essence of the person.  Are they quiet, introverted, energized, or regal.  You should be able to tell by the painting.  

Houses

Houses tell so much about us such as where we live, how we live and were we would like to live.  Many of these house paintings are gifts or commissions that I have done for others.  Several paintings are of the Old Angler's Inn in Potomac MD.  I'm the resident artist there and its interesting to note that 90% of the paintings I sell there are of the Inn.  It is a special place.
